Our Vision and Values

At Urchfont Church of England Primary School, our Christian vision is:

“I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.” – Philippians 4:13

This vision guides all that we do. Pupils and staff have reflected on what it means to show inner strength in school life and beyond — in learning, friendships, play, and caring for our community. From these reflections, we identified six Christian values that bring our vision to life: Respect, Compassion, Perseverance, Joy, Wisdom, and Courage. Each value is linked to a Bible verse and inspires the attitudes and behaviours we aim to demonstrate every day.

Respect – “Show proper respect to everyone.” – 1 Peter 2:17
We value others, ourselves, and the world God made. We listen, share, and care for our school and community.

Compassion – “Be kind and compassionate to one another.” – Ephesians 4:32
We show kindness and care to everyone. We listen, help, and make sure no one is left out.

Perseverance – “Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” – Hebrews 12:1
We keep going, even when things are difficult. God helps us to stay strong and never give up.

Joy – “The joy of the Lord is your strength.” – Nehemiah 8:10
We find joy in learning, playing, and being together. God’s love fills our hearts with happiness and thankfulness.

Wisdom – “Blessed are those who find wisdom.” – Proverbs 3:13
We learn from our mistakes and make thoughtful choices. God helps us grow in knowledge and understanding.

Courage – “Be strong and courageous… for the Lord your God will be with you.” – Joshua 1:9
We are brave and try new things. With God’s help, we face challenges and stand up for what is right.

Our six Christian values are also linked to our three family groups, helping children connect values with teamwork, responsibility, and friendship:

  • Cedar House – Perseverance and Courage
Cedar reminds us to stand tall and strong in every season.
  • Maple House – Compassion and Joy
Maple reminds us to spread warmth and love wherever you go.
  • Sycamore House – Wisdom and Respect
Sycamore reminds us to keep growing and learning every day.

You can find out more about our Family Groups in the dedicated page.

This approach helps children to remember our values more easily, as each is attached to a familiar family group, and to see them in action in school life. (Children also know that all values relate to and apply to the whole school community, not just to those in each family group.) It encourages children to work together across year groups, support one another in learning and play, and put our values into practice every day.

By living these values, we help every child grow in confidence, kindness, and faith. They guide how we learn, play, and care for each other, nurturing a caring, respectful, and faith-filled community at Urchfont School.
